An air conditioner and control method thereof is provided to enhance comfort degree of a user through an intended air current control by checking present of a user through a sensor capable of measuring a temperature and a distance. An air conditioner comprises a sensor(30) detecting a user information after measuring the temperature and distance value generating from a heat source located inside depending on angular value; and an air conditioning control part(52) controlling the air conditioner depending on presence or absence of a user, after checking the presence of a user based on the temperature and distance conforming to measured angular value.
