An alpha-numeric character display table is provided by a matrix of gas discharge elements that are triggered by a multi-phase clock selector circuit. Data from a computer is entered into a buffer register (10) for erectual transfer over an interface circuit (11) to the display table (20). A combined control-time base circuit (15) provides gating signals to control the transfer of data held in the buffer register to the display table. An addition control stage determines when new data is processed. The information transfer process uses multi phase clock signals to control the electrode activation process and operates to provide a write operation followed by a store operation.
