This curler consists of a spongy body with generally closed cells, inside which is arranged a semi-rigid thread-like core 5. According to the invention, at least part, preferably all, of the lateral surface of the spongy body consists of open cells, which leads to good attachment of the locks of hair on the curler, which remains non-absorbent with respect to setting and perming lotions. It is proposed to produce a multiple-part body 4a by cutting out from a block or a sheet of foam having closed cells, cutting-out leading to an opening of the cells on the two resulting free surfaces. Such a cutting-out supplies the strips which are assembled in order to reconstitute a curler body of polygonal (preferably hexagonal) cross-section, the joining-together of the strips of foam 4a, trapping the core 5, advantageously being effected by heat welding (heat sealing) or gluing. <IMAGE>
