PURPOSE:To sharply increase an electrostatic capacitance value per unit volume by a method wherein sulfuric acid to be used as an electrolyte and phenol resin-based powdery activated carbon whose specific surface area is within a specific range and whose average particle diameter is within a specific range are adopted. CONSTITUTION:In a carbon paste electrode for an electric double layer capacitor whose both electrodes are composed of a mixture of powdery activated carbon and a solution of an electrolyte, sulfuric acid is used as the electrolyte and phenol resin-based powdery activated carbon is used as the powdery activated carbon. In addition, a specific surface area of the powdery activated carbon is set within a range of 1100-1500m<2>/g, and an average particle diameter of the powdery activated carbon is set within a range of 1.5-4.0mum. In the phenol resin-based powdery activated carbon whose specific surface area is within the range of 1100-1500[m<2>/g] and whose average particle diameter is within the range of 1.5-4.0[mum], its self-discharge characteristic and an equivalent series-resistance value are all stable. That is, the carbon paste electrode whose electrical characteristic is extremely stable and whose Cv [F/cm<2>] is 1.8-1.9 times as large as a conventional electrode can be obtained. |
