A rotary hydraulic machine has an eccentric rotor (6) with slots (14) in which vanes (12) slide radially to follow the inner surface of a stator (2) within which the rotor turns. Tip seals between the vanes and the stator surface comprise rocking segments (30) that follow the stator surface contours and that have hydrostatic bearing surfaces (54, 56) on their inner and outer faces. Each vane has hydrostatic bearing surfaces (80, 82) on its faces within the rotor slots and these faces also have radially spaced areas (70, 72) communicating with the fluid chambers on opposite sides of the vane to balance the vane against pressure differences between the chambers. Rotor end seals comprise segmentally divided plates (90') with hydrostatic bearing surfaces (108, 110) and radially spaced areas (118, 120) communicating with opposite sides of each plate to balance side forces thereon. A preferred configuration of machine has multiple rotors (6a, 6b, 6c) at different phases to limit bending loads. All these measures serve to maintain more uniform clearances and reduce leakage power losses. |
