PURPOSE:To reduce the areas of non-image regions at a leading end part and a trailing end part of an image forming medium, by disposing an outer peripheral part of a feeding drum comprising a gripper in proximity to a thermal head, and determining a set position for starting printing according to the size of a paper. CONSTITUTION:As a platen roller 17 is driven, a paper P is passed between a roller 17 and a thermal printing heed 11 and an ink film 12, and an end part of the paper is clamped by a gripper 8. Next, a feeding drum 19 wraps the paper P thereon, and the other end part of the paper P is brought to a set position X3 for starting printing. By appropriately setting the position X3 according to the size of the paper P, the area of a non-image region on the side of a leading end part of the paper P can be reduced. Next, the roller 17 and the drum 19 are driven, thereby printing. At the stage of finishing printing, the gripper 8 is brought to and stopped at a position directly above a take up side ink film guide 16, and an outer peripheral part of the drum 19 is located in proximity to the head 13, so that the area of a non-image region on the side of a trailing end part of the paper can be reduced. |
