PURPOSE:To facilitate the change of related information to effectively retrieve images by managing attribute information and a resemblance degree defining means independently of each other and deciding the degree of resemblance between images by the resemblance degree defining means. CONSTITUTION:When a user selects a reference image as the object of resemblance check, a processor 96 transmits the file name of a reference image to an image processing device 92 and displays an abstractive image on an area 53 and displays attribute information on areas 54a-54i. The image processing device 92 reads out an original image having the designated file name from a mass storage device 91 and displays it on an image display device 93. The user refers o the original image and attribute information to request images resembling the reference image. The processor 96 obtains degrees of resemblance in accordance with attribute information, a resemblance degree table, and a weight table and displays them on areas 52a-52p. When a candidate image is selected, it is displayed on an image display device 93 and learning components in the weight table are updated.
