Electronic code switching device for the ignition system of vehicles, in particular for road-traffic motor vehicles. The electronic code ignition switching device switches the ignition of the motor vehicles on and off by means of a code which is entered. It consists of a housing which is provided with an opening for receiving the code key; it is equipped with electronic components and is located concealed under the dashboard of the motor vehicle. The switching device is switched in conjunction with the mechanical ignition lock and steering wheel lock. The electronics system of the switching device is set in such a way that in the event of unauthorised or violent damage to the device (attempted theft of a motor vehicle) the entire electronic power supply of the motor vehicle is automatically deactivated.
