The invention relates to a method for the production of tubes by the cold-pilger method using a rolling stand that can be moved backwards and forwards in the rolling direction and has taper-calibrated rolls which roll in opposite directions over the rolling stock, in which there is a likewise tapered or cylindrical mandrel, and with a rotation and feed device for the tube which consists essentially of two alternately acting clamping slides which operate briefly but synchronously and permit a continuous work process without interruption for the loading of a new tube blank. In order to provide a continuously operating cold-pilger mill which does not have the previous disadvantages but makes use of the fundamental advantages of a system with at least two clamping slides which operate alternately but temporarily in synchronism, the proposal is that the feed drive of each of the clamping slides should be provided by a direct linear drive, preferably by at least one hydraulic cylinder and/or linear motor. <IMAGE>
