<p>PURPOSE:To readily obtain the title compound useful as an intermediate for rust preventive, etc., in high selectivity and yield, by reacting an alcohol, etc., with amines using a specific catalyst consisting of three component composition and having high activity under specific reaction conditions while removing water produced as a by-product. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol such as lauryl alcohol or aldehyde is reacted with ammonia or primary amine or secondary amine in the presence of a catalyst (as necessary carried on a support) consisting of Cu, Co and one or more elements (e.g. Pt, Pd, Ru or Rh) of the periodic table VIII platinum group at atmospheric pressure or under pressure of <=100atm. (gauge pressure) at 150-250 deg.C while removing water out of reaction system to provide the aimed compound useful as an intermediate for surfactant, germicide, dyeing assistant for fiber, softening agent, etc. Furthermore, the above-mentioned catalyst is excellent in endurance, be free from lowering of catalyst activity even in recovering and reusing of several times-several ten times, capable of reducing also catalyst amount required and enables reaction under low temperature and ordinary pressure.</p> |
