PURPOSE:To directly monitor front light without reducing coupling efficiency by arranging a translucent single crystal having a light rectifying effect between a laser diode (LD) and an optical system to monitor an optical output from the LD. CONSTITUTION:The translucent single crystal 2 having the light rectifying effect is arranged in front of the LD 1. When light from the LD 1 is made incident on the single crystal 2, a voltage proportional to the power of light is generated in the cross section of the single crystal 2. However, almost of the incident light are reached the convergent optical system 3 without being adsorbed to the single crystal 2 and then guided to an optical fiber 4. Since the voltage generated in the single crystal 2 is proportional to the incident power to the optical fiber 4, stable optical output control APC characteristics can be obtained. Consequently, the APC characteristics can be improved without reducing the coupling efficiency between the LD and the optical fiber. |
