PURPOSE:To improve flexural strength of an alumina silica sintered compact, by adding SiC and ZrO2 powders to an alumina silica based powder having specific composition at a specific amount and sintering the mixture. CONSTITUTION:For example, aluminum isoproxide is blended with ethylsilicate so that weight ratio of Al2O3/SiO2 is 60-86%/40-14% in a composition consisting of Al2O3 and SiO2 and water is added and mixed thereto and the resultant precipitation is filtered and dried to afford a mixture consisting of 25-92wt.% alumina silica based powder, 5-50wt.% SiC powder and 3-37wt.% ZrO2 powder, which is then molded and the resultant moldings are sintered under ordinary pressure. The aimed alumina silica based sintered compact having great flexural strength is obtained by the above-mentioned method. |
