PURPOSE:To increase the lifetime of a thin sealing metal plate and effect an efficient and accurate heat sealing operation for a long period of time, by placing a metal foil lid having a heat sealing layer at its underside on a container opening and pressing a thin metal plate of a heat sealing device on the peripheral edge of the container opening from above the lid for heat sealing. CONSTITUTION:A lid 12 to be placed on an opening 11 of a glass container consists of a sheet of aluminum foil 13 and a heat sealing layer 14. The glass container 10 is located in a predetermined position under a heat sealing device 1 and the lid 12 is placed thereon. A heated heat pressing member 2 is moved downwardly to apply pressure and heat in order to heat seal the lid 12 to the opening 11 of the glass container 10, with a predetermined portion near the peripheral edge of the lid 12 in contact with the peripheral edge of the opening 11 of the glass container 10 through a thin metal plate 3 with an elastic layer 5 attached thereto interposed between the heat pressing member and the lid. The thin metal plate 3 is excellent in heat conductivity and the central and peripheral projections 9 of a heat conducting metal block 2b make direct contact with the thin metal plate 3, whereby a sufficient heat can be supplied to the heat sealing layer 14 of the lid 12 from a heat pressing portion 2a through the heat conducting metal block 2b and the thin metal plate 3 to make a speedy sealing possible. |
