<p>PURPOSE:To prevent poisoning of a main filter by providing the main filter, which carries catalyst components to burn particulates, on the downstream side of an exhaust system, and providing an auxiliary filter whose pressure loss is less than that of the main filter and which carries alkaline earth metals on the upstream side. CONSTITUTION:This collecting device 10, which is interposed in the exhaust system 14 of a Diesel engine 12, consists of a main filter 16 for collecting particulates and an auxiliary filter 18 for collecting poisoning. The main filter 16 consists of the honeycomb filter in a cordierite chamber, and an activated alumina coating layer is formed on the surface of its passage wall, while it is waterproofed. The auxiliary filter 18 also consists of the honeycomb filter in a cordierite room, the activated alumina coating layer is formed on its surface, while the filter is impregnated with alkaline earth metals, e.g. barium nirate, dried and baked after forming the activated alumina coating layer.</p> |
