PURPOSE:To carry out surface treatment of a galvanized wire rope with superior rust preventiveness by subjecting the wire rope to acidic activation treatment and nickel plating at a specified current density with an acidic nickel plating soln. having a regulated concn. of zinc. CONSTITUTION:A wire rope obtd. by twisting galvanized steel wires is subjected to acidic activation treatment and the wet acidic rope is immersed in an acidic nickel plating soln. During nickel plating, electric current is supplied to the body to be plated at >=95% current density and the plating soln. is drawn out of the system and electrolyzed to keep the concn. of zinc in the soln. at <=700ppm. Thus, surface treatment of the wire rope with superior rust preventiveness and fine luster can be carried out.
