PURPOSE:To make the production of a cylindrical shape article easy by forming a retainer plate, which is transformable into a flat plate shape and the cylindrical shape, into the flat plate shape, supplying thereon the metal article such as wire net of specified length, pressing its upper part with supporting devices, then transforming the retainer plate into the cylindrical shape. CONSTITUTION:When a metal beltlike article (wire net) 8 having flexibility, such as buffering body 6 for bufferingly supporting the honeycomb catalyst carrier corporated in a catalytic converter, is processed into a cylindrical shape, first, five metal plates 11-15 which compose a retainer plate 10 are positioned on the same plane surface, and the wire net 8 is placed in the specified position on its upper surface. Next, after advancing the supporting devices 24 retreated aside till then above the metal net 8, the metal plates 12, 14 are made to stand up by the operation of one pair of air cylinders 20, and at the same time metal plates 11, 15 on both ends are made to fall inward. Thereby the retainer plate 10 is tranformed into the cylindrical shape, the wire net 8 is rolled into the cylindrical shape, both of its edge parts are overlapped to each other, these overlapping parts are welded together by the welding means 44, 45, and the production is accomplished. |
