THERMAL TRANSFER RECORDING MEDIUM AND PREPARATION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To achieve high-quality printing, by providing a first heat-softening layer and a second heat-softening layer containing a constituent unit comprising a tackifier diluted with a heat-meltable substance on a support of a thermal transfer recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A first heat-softening layer comprising a dispersion of a coloring material in a thermoplastic resin and/or a heat-meltable substance is formed or a support. Next a tackifier is mixed with at least part of the heat-meltable substance in the substantial absence of water and water is added to the obtained mixture to prepare an aqueous coating suspension for a second heat-softening layer. This suspension is applied onto the above first layer formed on the support and dried to form a second heat-softening layer of a thermal transfer recording medium. Preferably the first heat-softening layer is one formed by applying its components on the support by hot melt coating.
