PURPOSE:To easily join a plastic optical fiber which has superior heat resistance without requiring any connector by forming a core member as the coupling part of an optical fiber consisting of a core part where light is transmitted and a clad part which is lower in refractive index than the core part. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 3 each consisting of a core part 1 where light is transmitted and a clad part 2 which is lower in refractive index than the core part 1 are coupled to form one optical fiber, whose coupling part is an optical fiber made of the core member. The same material is used for the core member 1 and an adhesive and then light passed through the core part 1 is passed through the adhesive similarly to the inside of the core part 1. Consequently, scattering on a joining surface is reduced and the border surface between the core part 1 and adhesive is eliminated substantially, so scattering loss due to component fluctuations is eliminated. Further, when thermosetting resin is used for the core member 1, the heat resistance becomes superior and the reliability is improved. |
