CONTROL SYSTEM FOR A CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION A hydraulic control for a continuously variable pulley type transmission, has a torque sensing mechanism which is responsive to the torque transmitted by a gearing arrangement drivingly connected with the variable pulley drive. The torque sensing mechanism controls a valve which supplies a pressure signal to a control valve for the variable pulley drive. The control valve in response to the pressure signal and a position signal from the variable pulley drive controls the flow of pressure fluid to and from a hydraulic control mechanism. The hydraulic control mechanism controls the torque capacity of the variable pulley drive.
