PURPOSE:To stop optical beams into a small point and to improve recording density by intensity-modulating the light beams in correspondence with a signal to be recorded and shortening a wavelength in a non-linear optical element. CONSTITUTION:The light beams of an argon laser 4 are intensity-modulated in accordance with the signal to be recorded by an E-O modulator 6, and the wavelength is shortened by the non-linear optical element 14. The beams are stopped and irradiated on the glass substrate 1 to which a photo resist is applied in a lens actuator 9, and the photo resist is exposed so as to record the signal. On the other hand, the light beams of a He-He laser 1 pass through the actuator 9 and irradiate the substrate 1 through a filter mirror 11. An optical detector 13 receives the light beams which have been reflected and returned. With the output signal, the actuator 9 is controlled so that the light beams from the laser 4 are focused on the substrate 1.
