PURPOSE:To reduce a speed change shock and to restrain excessive slide by detecting ths operating condition of a friction element from the change rate of rotation of a rotary element and compensating and controlling the operating oil pressure of the friction element to reach the target change rate at the time of the next speed change operation. CONSTITUTION:A friction element 19 is connected, and released by operating oil pressure from oil pressure regulating means 59. At the time of changing the speed, the change rate of rotation of a rotary element such as a turbine of a fluid converter or the like is detected by change rate detecting means 60, and at the time of the next speed change operation, according to a difference between the detected change rate of rotation and the target change rate, a signal for compensating operating oil pressure to the friction element 19 is output from compensating means 61 to the oil pressure regulating means 59. In case of a large change rate over the target change rate, that is, in the case where the operating speed is too high, the operating oil pressure is compensated to be small, and on the contrary, if it is too low, the oil pressure is compensated to be large. Thus, a speed change shock and excessive slide can be effectively restrained so as to accomplish favorable speed change operation. |
