PURPOSE: To raise the synchronizing speed of the claw clutch by providing a torque converter disconnect friction clutch and a torque converter lock-up friction clutch. CONSTITUTION: An automatic mechanical transmission system has a fluid torque converter 20 between an engine 16 and a mechanical change gear transmission 14 having a power synchronizing device 30. The lock-up/disconnect clutch structure 10 of the torque converter 20 includes a first friction clutch 24 and a second friction clutch 26 for independent engagable and disengagable disconnect and lock-up. A first connecting member 74 is fixed on a transmission input shaft 72 and a second connecting member 79 is fixed to the torque converter turbine 60 respectively. The first friction clutch 24 selectively engages and disengages the first and second connecting members 74, 79 and the second friction clutch 26 selectively engages and disengages the second connecting member 79 and an engine drive shroud 58. In this way, it is possible to raise the synchronizing speed of the engaged clutch without being limited by the responding time of the engine. |
