The degassing of molten material involves submitting it to ultrasonic waves. The molten material flows in a transfer channel from a furnace to a casting installation. The ultrasonic device used to degass the molten material in this transfer channel comprises a plurality of ultrasonic heads mounted in the lateral walls and the bottom of the transfer channel in a manner that enables them to be advanced and drawn back to compensate for wear. The ultrasonic heads are connected to a regulable ultrasonic generator by suitable connectors. A further recirculation channel can be provided to connect the transfer channel and the furnace for additional efficiency. USE/ADVANTAGE - For the degassing of molten material, esp. non-ferrous metals partic. Al and its alloys. Allows the degassing to completely eliminate the impurities without provoking sec. reactions or producing noxious fumes. Eliminates the need for supplementary equipment to treat any secondary reactions. Installation size and cost, and energy requirements are reduced. The ultrasonic waves modify the grain structure of the material and reduce residual inclusions giving a more homogenous material with enhanced physical properties.
