An improved mechanism for adjusting a power-assisted drum brake makes it possible to adjust the brake shoes 14A, 14B automatically so as to take account of the wear of the linings 16A, 16B and of the surface of the drum 11. The mechanism includes a threaded adjustment rod 22 actuated by the movement of a finger forming a pawl 55 on a star wheel 25. The finger is actuated by a thrust rod 50 resembling a wire. During a predetermined circumferential movement of the primary shoe, the thrust rod gives rise to the rotation of the star wheel and the adjustment of the brake shoes. <IMAGE>
