The invention relates to a reversing gearbox/axle assembly for a motor vehicle, particularly for a mini car, having a moderate height and solving both the problem of difficult lateral fixing of conventional gearboxes, and that of the reliability of the variator pulley support input shaft, whilst remaining of reasonable price. For this purpose, the gearbox is characterised in that it includes two output shafts 8, 9 arranged aligned in the extension of one another and on which are respectively keyed the two planetary gears 39, 40 of a differential, and an input shaft 7 arranged coaxially with one of the two output shafts 8, 9. <IMAGE>
