PURPOSE:To regulate the transmittivity of a laser light, and to employ a semiconductor laser as both recording and reproducing light sources by sequentially adhering an electrochromic element and a reflecting film on one light irradiating end face of a laser chip, and regulating the voltage applied to the element. CONSTITUTION:One side face of an electrochromic element 5a on which a reflection preventive film 4 is deposited is adhered to one end face 2a of a laser chip 1, and a reflecting film 5b is adhered to the other side face of the element 5a. The voltage of an electric circuit 7 is regulated to adjust the transmittivity of a light by the element 5a. When the transmittivity of the light is reduced, the coherency of an irradiated light is reduced, the interference of an oscillation light and a return light is reduced in the cavity of the chip 1 thereby to suppress a return light inducing noise to a small value, and it can be employed as a reproducing light source of a magneto-optical memory. When the transmittivity of the light is raised to the maximum limit, its oscillation efficiency becomes maximum, and it can be employed as a recording light source of the memory. |
