Discharge lamps. A better efficiency and a better colour reproduction are obtained in an electrodeless metal halide discharge lamp by virtue of a new combination of filling substances for the arc tube 10, comprising a sodium halide, a cerium halide and xenon. A preferred physical configuration for the lamp, in which the arc tube 10 is surrounded by a transparent envelope 12 with interposition of a heat barrier 15, further improves the efficiency at high operating temperatures.
