PURPOSE:To produce a substance 46NW-04A having antiviral activity, by cultivating a bacterium, belonging to the genus Pseudomonas, having specific physical properties, such as molecular weight, and capable of producing a substance 46NW-04A in a culture medium. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium, such as bacterium Pseudomonas sp. 46NW-04 strain, belonging to the genus Pseudomonas, having specific physico-chemical properties and capable of producing a substance 46NW-04A is cultivated in a culture medium and the aimed substance 46NW-04A is collected from the resultant culture. The obtained substance 46NW-04A has the following physico- chemical properties. Molecular weight; 1126 [measured by secondary ion (SI)-mass spectrometry]. Elementary analysis value; carbon, 54.68%; hydrogen, 8.49%; nitrogen, 10.0%. Melting point; 206-208 deg.C. specific rotatory power [alpha]-47.5 (C = 2.0, methanol). readily soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone and dimethyl sulfoxide, sparingly soluble in diethyl ether and insoluble in water, etc. |
