PURPOSE:To reduce the resistance of a wiring connecting a coil with its controller as well as the number of wirings, and to improve the utilization efficiency of the power source for driving printing wires, by providing the carriage with a coil controller that controls for every coil the excitation mode for coils driving printing wires electromagnetically according to the content of a printing control signal. CONSTITUTION:In the case of printing action, at time t12 when a printing wire 9 gains almost the maximum displacement speed, normally printing is controlled to almost show a fixed value I2m for improvement of printing quality. If a controller 38 is provided in carriage 26, no flexible cable is necessary to connect a coil 18 and the controller 38, and current I2 has the time constant reduced between time t11 and time t12; accordingly, power consumption reduces much more than a conventional printer with a controller 28 set outside carriage 26. The wire connecting the printer main unit with the carriage may comprise only a printing control signal wire 27 and a power feed wire for coil controller 28 with the result that the total number of wires can be reduced below 2N when the number N of wires is large. |
