Apparatus for reproducing data, which can be read from the data tracks of a recording carrier (CD) contactlessly by means of a scanning device (A1). Because such apparatuses for reproducing data have a relatively complicated construction, special measures for improving the reproduction quality and for increasing the operational reliability are desirable. In order to improve the reproduction quality and increase the operational reliability, at least two scanning devices (A, A2) are provided, so that if one scanning device fails it is possible to switch over to the other, or so that the scanning device which supplies the better data signals is always in operation.
