The invention relates to a method for categorising an electric arc (X) in a monitoring zone (2), wherein a current (I) in a feed line to the monitoring zone (2) and a light emitted in the monitoring zone (2) are detected. The electric arc (X) is categorised as an arcing fault when a difference time (Δt) between the recognition of a current (I) caused by an electric arc (X) and a flash of light caused by the electric arc (X) is below a predeterminable first threshold value. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out said method. |
