The invention relates to a relatively simple method for producing a coaxially field-coupled transformer having high efficiency, by the use of a magnetic return path consisting of amorphous strips and/or wires which are free of magnetostriction. The primary coil 2 and the secondary coil 3 are fitted on the inside and outside respectively of a support 7 which is in the form of a hollow cylinder and can be split. After this, the two coils 2 and 3 are jointly wound with the said strips and/or wires with the aid of a ring winding device or the like, and this circumferential winding is cut in a circular manner after completion of the winding process and solidification of the composite element (which is thus produced) at the ends, so that the air gaps 6 are produced. <IMAGE>
