摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a illumination device with efficient illumination by providing a vessel where a fluorescent material is applied and one or more kind of metal and rare gas is sealed and an electromagnetic field generation means comprising a conductor including a superconducting member applying a high frequency electronic field to the inside of this vessel. CONSTITUTION:There is no internal resistance as a coil 1b is composed of a superconducting member. When a power switch 1a is put ON and a high frequency voltage is applied to the coil 1b by a high frequency power supply 1c, the high frequency current flows to produce high frequency electromagnetic field, making rare gas sealed in a fluorescent lamp 2 start discharge. The discharge of the gas 2a vaporizes granular mercury 2b in the lamp 2 to perform discharge, mainly by mercury vapor. Then mercury vapor generates much ultraviolet light beams as well as green light beams, and the ultraviolet beams are converted into a visible light by means of phosphor material 2c applied on a tube wall to allow a fluorescent lamp 2 to illuminate. Electrical resistance is turned to be zero by composing the coil 1b of the superconducting material in this way. It is thus possible to eliminate heat generation and heat loss, and to improve the efficiency of electromagnetic field, namely illumination efficiency.
