According to the invention, the use of a used, worn-out weapon barrel is proposed for firing blank ammunition, especially blank cartridges, from automatic weapons with barrels. A limiter sleeve (22) having a longitudinally axial hole (23) is mounted in the weapon barrel (10), in the firing chamber (16) located in the rearward part (14) of said weapon barrel (10), the diameter (24) of the longitudinally axial hole (23) being less than the calibre (26) of the weapon barrel (10). This prevents erroneously loaded live ammunition from being fired from the weapon barrel (10). In order to achieve the gas pressure which is required to operate the automatic weapon, a nozzle insert (34) having an internal hole (38) is mounted in a front part (18) of the weapon barrel (10). The restrictor effect of the nozzle insert (34) is adjustable in an advantageous manner by means of a screw (36) which projects into the internal hole (38) in the nozzle insert (34). <IMAGE>
