PURPOSE:To make it possible to display charge and discharge conditions by using a material the color of which is changed reversibly by electric potential changes as a battery active material and providing a transparent part in a part of a battery vessel so that the color change of the active material can be observed by eye. CONSTITUTION:Black lead has the electrochromic display element(ECD) property in which the color is changed depending on the inserted condition of lithium as well. When it is used as a negative electrode 4, the color is remarkably changed with gold under the charged condition and from blue to black with the progress of discharge. A transparent sealing material 6 is provided on the center part over the negative electrode 4, so that the color change of the negative electrode 4 can be observed by eye therethrough. Hence, by using a material having both excellent properties as battery active material and the ECD property such as black lead, as the battery active material, the charge and discharge conditions of the battery can be displayed by color changes of this active material itself. |
