Grid-like frameworks and grid-like cages are produced from wires by spot welding. The object of the invention is to disclose wires from which grid-like frameworks or grid-like cages can, in contrast to the use of round wires, be produced in a material-saving and more simple manner. Use is made, for the main load-bearing members of the grids, of a flat wire (1), up-ended in cross-section, which comprises at least two axis-parallel cylinder regions (1A, 1B), each with a connecting region (2) located therebetween, the height (H) of which corresponds approximately to the cylinder radius (R). The applications of the flat wire (1) for a wire cage and as a rail for profiled rollers are represented. <IMAGE>
