If short, high bandwidth pulses (such as occur in correlation of spread spectrum functions for example) are compared in a threshold circuit with a given threshold value, the width of the output pulses which are beyond the threshold depends on the ratio of the pulse height to the threshold value. To enable even output pulses which occur with minimal width to be further processed at a justifiable cost, all output pulses are first standardised, so that only pulses with a given optimal width are available for digital processing. <IMAGE>
