<p>Device which comprises a transducer (TMI1) for writing information and which is arranged on a travelling pad (PATI1) above the medium, a polarised light source (SLI1), optical means (MFOCI1) for focusing the incident beam (Fi) coming from the source, onto the medium, and means of detecting the angle of rotation of the plane of polarisation of the light. According to the invention, this device is characterised in that it comprises means (MDPI1) for measuring the displacement of the incident beam (Fi1) relative to a predetermined reference position (POSREF), emitting a signal sent to control means (COMI1) themselves sending control signals dependent on this displacement to means (MCPI1) for correcting the position of the incident beam and which bring it back into the reference position (POSREF).
