PURPOSE:To provide the titled polymer consisting of a specific quaternarized recurring unit, an ampholytic recurring unit and other recurring unit, capable of imparting hair with antistaticity, free from built-up tendency, having high conditioning effect and useful as a hair cosmetic, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer composed of 5-60mol.% of a quaternarized recurring unit of formula I (R<1> is H or CH3, R<2> is 1-4C alkylene; R<3> is 1-4C alkyl, etc.; A1 is O or NH; X is Br, Cl, etc.), 95-40mol.% of ampholytic recurring unit of formula II (R<4> is same as R<1>; R<5> and R<6> are same as R<2>; A2 is same as A1) and 0-50mol.% of other recurring unit can be produced by copolymerizing a cationic monomer (e.g., dimethylaminopropyl methacrylate) and a copolymerizable monomer (e.g., n-butyl methacrylate) in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator, adding a quaternarizing agent (e.g., ethyl bromide), reacting under heating, adding an amphoterizing agent (e.g., potassium monochloroacetate) and reacting under heating. |
