PURPOSE: To provide a method for treating the surface of carbon fibers, capable of giving the specific carbon fibers having a good composite performance by subjecting the carbon fibers to the first electrolysis treatment using the carbon fibers as an anode in an inorganic acidic or neutral electrolyte aqueous solution and subsequently subjecting the carbon fibers to the second electrolysis treatment in an ammonium carbonate or inorganic alkaline electrolyte aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION: This method for treating the surfaces of carbon fibers comprises subjecting the carbon fibers having an elastic modulus of >=30 t/mm<2> to the first electrolysis treatment using the carbon fibers as an anode in an inorganic acidic or neutral electrolyte aqueous solution at a temperature of >=60 deg.C and subsequently subjecting the carbon fibers to the second electrolysis treatment in an ammonium carbonate or inorganic alkaline electrolyte aqueous solution having an electoconductivity of >=10 mS/cm, thus obtaining the carbon fibers having a good composite performance. |
