he fire extinguisher has the detector receiving infrared rays from the flames of a fire in a detecting area at one of an array of light receiving elements which corresponds to the ray's incident angle into an assembly of an infrared ray passing filter and a condenser lens. Variations in the detected output of the detector resulting from flaring of the fire flames are discriminated. When the output of the fire detector is higher than a predetermined level, an extinguishant tank communicating with the ejection nozzle is opened to discharge towards the flames the extinguishant from the tank.
