PURPOSE:To detect the tracks of neutrons and charged particles with good sensitivity by using a polymer of a specific alkali polycharbonate compd. CONSTITUTION:The polymer contg. the monomer unit derived from the alkali polycarbonate compd. having >=3 allyl carbonate in one molecule is used as a solid track detector. The latent image of formed on the surface of the polymer by elementary particle collision can be observed as a distinct etch pit by subjecting said surface to chemical etching. Since the latent image is formed with the good sensitivity with the detector of this invention, the large etch pit is obtainable even with the particle of low energy. This detector has the characteristic that the surface of the detector (sheet) is smooth and is not impaired in smoothness even after the etching treatment.
