Optical disc data recording technique - by use of laser to induce formation of deposit on photosensitive recording medium

The technique uses a support (1) comprising a sealed chamber (2) with a layer of recording medium (4) on the inside surface. Within the chamber is an active substance (6) having a chemical affinity with the recording medium. A radiation source comprising a laser (8) and an objective lens (9) focusses radiation on to the recording layer in order to induce a chemical change. In response to the radiation the recording layer undergoes a reaction causing a deposit to be formed on the underlying layer (5). A heater (11) lies adjacent to the chamber.
