The invention relates to a rotating machine with fluid circulation, comprising an external envelope 3 acting as a stator and a rotor 2 driven in rotation within the external envelope and consisting of wheels which are placed side by side, are mounted on a rotation shaft 1 and between which diaphragms 32, 33, integral with the external envelope 3, are inserted, each wheel 2 consisting of a hub 7 and of two flanges, delimiting radial fluid transfer ducts 4 connected by ducts arranged between the wheels and the diaphragms. According to the invention the external profile of the rotation shaft 1 consists of a series of spaced out cylindrical supporting surfaces 12, between which circular recesses 11 having an incurved hollow profile are inserted, each constituting at least one part of the inlet duct 63 of a wheel 2 whose hub 7 is slipped over the cylindrical supporting surface 12 placed immediately downstream, each wheel 2 being equipped with means 8 for linking, in axial and rotational motion, to the corresponding supporting surface 12.
