A description is given of a device for limiting the seat-belt forces which occur in seat belts of vehicles, in particular passenger vehicles, when the seat belts act as restraints. The device has a strip-shaped component (1), which has a longitudinal slot (3), and a bolt-shaped expanding body (5), which engages in the longitudinal slot (3) and has a cross-section which is larger in a manner such that when a predetermined seat-belt force is exceeded a relative displacement between the component (1) and the expanding body (5) takes place by the component (4) expanding. In order to keep the seat-belt force level required for the expansion as constant as possible over the sliding path, the intention is for a moulding (7) to be provided, which acts on the component (1) for the purpose of restoring the component back to its original shape and which preferably comprises two blade-like wings (7), which are aligned essentially at right angles to the plane of the component (1) and engage on the two longitudinal sides (11) of the component (1) at an acute angle to the direction of force. <IMAGE>
