The apparatus for cutting glass panes (4) to size exhibits a virtually vertical glass-pane rest (1) which essentially comprises a two-part panel, having a slot (10) between the two panel parts, through which the glass-cutting tool is guided in a vertically displaceable manner and acts on the glass pane from behind. The glass pane (4), standing on a ledge (6), is fixed on the rest (1) by means of a press-on rail (3) which is mounted in the upper region of said rest (1), the press-on rail (3) latching on a spring hook (9). By means of a stop (7) which can be displaced longitudinally on the rest (1), along a rule (8), the desired width or length of the glass pane can be set. By pressing down an actuating handle (11) guided on the press-on rail, the glass-cutting tool, which is connected to said handle by means of a cable, via a roller, in the upper region of the press-on rail (3), is drawn upwards along the glass pane and scores the same. The glass pane can then be gripped in the region of grooves (13) made in the rest (1) and broken off in the forwards direction.
