This unit has a support carrying microcapsules containing a hydrophobic organic compound that melts at a particular temperature methine dye and oxidising material. The methine dye or oxidising material is dissolved or dispersed in the organic compound microcapsules. The unit is formed as a label and the microcapsules are cracked beforehand at a temperature lower than the temperature at which a color display is required.
