Bulky material, in particular completely assembled shield units, can be put into the face during the preparation or can be taken out of the face during the drawing, with a considerable reduction in the amount of time and labour involved, by means of an arrangement when the machine slide of a shearer loader is movably arranged on the fully equipped conveyor and is equipped at both ends with a vertically adjustable transport boom overlapping the cable spill plates. A multiplicity of fixing points are provided in a distributed manner on this transport boom or a supporting plate which extends right under the conveyor itself. The shield unit can be coupled either directly or indirectly via the fixing points and then transported. <IMAGE>
