The wire-severing station works with severing discs which have overlapping cuts, so that all the band wires are severed simultaneously or virtually simultaneously, the waste-paper bale being kept stationary. This simultaneously results in such wire pieces as can also be removed in the wire-severing station by a wire-removing device or by means of additional lateral magnetic plates. A magnetic roller downstream of the wire-severing station picks up the wire pieces located underneath the particular waste-paper bale and throws them off.
