Method for forming an adjusted surface sheet element (1, 2) from a planar sheet of titanium or titanium alloy by hot pressing in a press (17). The planar sheet element is preheated to a temperature at least equal to 730 DEG C, the preheated element is transferred into an unpreheated pressing tool (18, 23) which is set in place in the press (17) in a time sufficiently short to allow the temperature of the element to remain at least equal to 700 DEG C at the end of the pressing operation, the pressed element is transferred into a calibrating tool and is heated to at least 650 DEG C during a time sufficient for its definitive shaping, and it is then allowed to cool to room temperature.
